A Guide to Maintaining and Caring for Your Sports Eyewear

Proper care and maintenance of your sports eyewear are crucial to ensure their longevity and maintain optimal vision and safety during your activities. This summer, let us at Advanced Eyecare Specialists help you keep your sports glasses in the best possible condition. Follow these best practices to ensure your eyewear remains a reliable part of your sports gear.

Sports Eyewear Maintenance

From cleaning to storage and parts replacement, here are our top tips for maintaining your sports eyewear all year round:

Regular Cleaning

  • Use a microfiber cloth to remove any dust or fingerprints from the lenses. Avoid using paper towels or clothing, which can scratch the lenses.
  • Use a lens-cleaning solution for smudges. Spray the solution on the microfiber cloth, then wipe the lenses gently.
  • Once a week, wash the eyewear under lukewarm water with a mild soap (ensure it's lotion-free). Use your fingers to clean around the nose pads and frame edges.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap suds and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth weekly.

Proper Storage

  • Store your sports eyewear in a sturdy, protective case when not in use. This prevents scratches on the lenses and protects the frame from potential damage.
  • Avoid leaving your eyewear in direct sunlight, such as on your car's dashboard, as extreme temperatures and exposure to direct sunlight can warp the frame and degrade the lens coatings.

Routine Inspections

  • Regularly inspect your sports eyewear for any signs of wear or damage, such as loose screws, misaligned frames, or scratches on the lenses. Early detection of these issues can prevent them from worsening.
  • Check the fit periodically, especially if you experience any discomfort. There may be adjustments to ensure the eyewear fits comfortably and securely.

Replacement of Worn-Out Parts

  • Replace nose pads and ear socks as needed to maintain comfort and proper fit. These parts can degrade over time due to sweat and environmental exposure.
  • Consider replacing the lenses promptly to maintain clear vision if there are scratches or damage. Scratches can impair your vision and may weaken the structural integrity of the lens.

Avoid Common Mistakes

  • Do not use household glass cleaners or ammonia-based sprays on your sports eyewear, as these can strip away the lens coatings.
  • Avoid using excessive force when cleaning or adjusting your eyewear. Gentle handling is key to preventing accidental damage.

Professional Eyewear Maintenance and Repairs

While regular home care is crucial, professionals best handle some aspects of eyewear maintenance. Annual check-ups at Advanced Eyecare Specialists can extend the life and effectiveness of your sports eyewear. Our expert can perform detailed inspections and precision adjustments that are not always possible at home.

These visits are also an excellent opportunity to discuss changes in your vision or comfort needs, ensuring your eyewear fits your requirements.
