What Are Scleral Lenses?

Scleral lenses are specialized contact lenses designed to vault over the entire corneal surface, resting on the sclera (the white part of the eye) and forming a fluid-filled vault over the cornea. Unlike traditional contact lenses that sit on the cornea, scleral lenses offer greater comfort by avoiding direct contact with sensitive corneal tissue. They hold a reservoir of saline solution between the lens and the eye, providing continuous hydration and addressing various vision problems.

Why Choose Scleral Lenses?

Scleral lenses are an excellent choice for individuals with various eye conditions, including keratoconus, irregular astigmatism, dry eye syndrome, and post-surgical complications. These lenses offer unparalleled comfort and stability, allowing for sharper vision by compensating for irregularities in the cornea.

Moreover, their unique design helps protect the cornea from external irritants, making them an ideal option for those with sensitive or dry eyes. Scleral lenses also enhance vision correction compared to traditional contacts, especially for those with complex prescriptions.
